How Do You Make Bubble Hash: A Step-by-Step Guide

Bubble hash remains a popular cannabis concentrate due to its purity, potency, and flavor. Technically, it is a form of hashish that’s extracted using ice water. Its name comes from the way it bubbles when exposed to flame. The good news is, making bubble hash at home is relatively straightforward. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you create your own bubble hash.

Materials Needed

Before you begin, make sure you have the following tools and ingredients to make bubble hash:

  • Cannabis trimmings or buds
  • Bubble bags or ice-water hash bags (usually coming in sets with different micron sizes)
  • Two clean buckets
  • Ice
  • Clean, purified water
  • Wooden spoon or paddle for stirring
  • Fine micron pressing screen
  • Card or scraper
  • Clean, dry area to work and dry your bubble hash

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Preparation

Prepare your cannabis. This could be trimmings, small buds, or even larger ones, depending on the quality of hash you want to produce. Just remember, the quality of your input material will directly affect your final product.

Step 2: Layer Your Bags

Arrange your bubble bags in one of the buckets based on their micron measurements. The smallest micron bag should be the first one in the bucket, with each larger bag layered on top. The number of bags may vary, but it is usually around 4-5.

Step 3: Add Your Cannabis and Water

Add your cannabis to the top bubble bag. Then fill the bucket with enough purified water to cover the cannabis. The amount of water needed will depend on how much cannabis you’re using, but a good rule of thumb is to have at least 2-3 inches of water above your cannabis.

Step 4: Add Ice

Add a generous amount of ice to the bucket until you almost reach the brim.

Step 5: Stir and Agitate

Stir the ice and cannabis mixture for 15-20 minutes. The cold temperature makes the trichomes brittle, allowing them to break off from the plant material with the agitation of stirring.

Step 6: Let the Mixture Rest

Allow the mixture to sit for an additional 20-30 minutes. This time allows the trichomes to sink to the bottom and pass through the screen to be collected in the smaller micron bags below.

Step 7: Remove and Rinse

Begin removing the bubble bags, starting from the top (largest micron size). As you pull up each bag, let any liquid remaining drain back into the bucket. Rinely each bag under cold water through a process called ‘washing’ to extract the maximum amount of resin. Then, invert each bag onto your pressing screen to collect the material inside.

Step 8: Collect Your Hash

With your scraper or card, collect the wet bubble hash from the screen and place it on a piece of parchment paper or similar. Do this process for all your bags, remembering that the material in the smallest micron bag is usually the highest quality bubble hash.

Step 9: Dry Your Hash

Let the hash dry at room temperature for at least 24 hours, ideally longer. Make sure the hash is entirely dry before storing it to avoid mold growth.

And voila! You’ve just made your own bubble hash at home. The process may require some equipment and patience, but the result is a powerful and natural cannabis concentrate. Always remember to use responsibly, and happy hashing!
